Lost in a Winter Wonderland

Hello friends,
It's a Winter Wonderland here in Northern Utah. I haven't seen this much snow in a long, long time.
I took this picture just out my back door looking down toward our pond.

I think the snow is so peaceful and most beautiful to look at.
But, I must be honest, I have been wondering how long this mass of snow will take to melt..
I have projects I'm so anxious to start working on, that i can only do outside...

Our Ol' girl Tessa is in no hurry for the snow to melt, she loves it!
She rolls in it, scoots her nose then her whole face into it. To watch Tessa play in the snow, you would never guess that she was 13 yrs. old.

I thought with all this wonderful snow, a cute lil' Valentine Snowman would be fitting.
This sweet lil' guy was created using a salt shaker and some paper clay.
He is my first addition to my " Evoke a Smile" boutique found on the tab above.

Well, I'm off to get some rest before the next storm rolls in. Gotta love that shoveling ;)

Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope your day is the best!

Grow Your Blog Party and Tutorial!

I am so happy :) you stopped by.

Please, help yourself to some scrum*dilly*umptious refreshments while you look around.

Before I tell you about myself, I would like to give a special thank you to Vicki, over at 2 Bags full for hosting this wonderful blog party.
Vicki is a very talented, and very sweet lady. I really think you will love Vicki and her blog.

                           A little bit about myself;
My name is Diane. I am married to
a great guy, who supports me in all the crazy things I do.
We are grandparents raising beautiful grandkids, and we love every wild and crazy minute of it.

I started blogging several years ago.
One of the art groups I belonged to, had suggested starting a blog to help in promoting sales.

I found that the blogland is simply amazing!
I have met so many wonderful and talented people, and I am looking forward to meeting you too:)

I am an artist,
and I work in many mediums, but my favorite is air dry clays.
You can view some of my work in the pages above, under "gallery".

I like to go thrifting, and give old  discarded items a new purpose.

          Or, Jazz up new items!

Like these little plastic containers I found at the $ store.
There were 10 in a package for                              only $1.
I thought, WOW! I can sure make some extra cute candy containers for all the grandkids and my booth space up town, with those lil' cutie's.

If you would like, I'll show how i did it!

I gathered my supplies: Spray paint,Mod Podge Dimensional glaze ( I LOVE THIS STUFF! It can be found at any Hobby Lobby or Michaels craft store). Glitter ( I use Martha Stewarts fine glitter). Acrylic craft paint and the plastic containers found at the Dollar store.

First I gave the lids several coats of spray paint.

Then like in above pic, I added dimensional glaze and spread it around.

Then, while the glaze is wet, I generously sprinkle with glitter.

After about 5 minutes of dry time, then add a top coat of Dimensional glaze. This will seal the glitter in and give a sparkly glazed look, and it keeps the glitter from getting everywhere.

Now you have some wonderfully, glittery lids.

Then you paint your design...
I kept mine simple, painting hearts.

You can finish with adding some dimensional glaze to the heart to seal and give it shine ;) if you want to add dimension to the heart you can add as many layers of glaze as you like, then you have a puffy heart..

And wallah, cute candy containers...

I hope you will be inspired to create!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog,
And I look forward to meeting you :)

Have a Happy Day!

What a girl wants...

                                                    Every girl needs

                                       an original handcrafted kitchen knife.

I just happen to know this
extraordinary, brilliant and most talented man,
who spoiled me with  a custom kitchen knife.

                                              Completely 100% handcrafted

And.., can it ever slice through an onion :)

Thank you Alan, love of my life.

Cabin Chic Inspiration, part 1

                                  Hello there and Happy FRIDAY!

A snowy Friday here. It's been laying down the fluffy white stuff since 3 pm yesterday.
I'm (secretly) hoping the schools call it a snow day :)

One of my goals for this year is to give our living room a makeover... And, by golly it needs it, because it's really never had one before. Nope, never! just an eclectic mish mash of much loved stuff, but no real style per say.
With our extremely tight budget, i will have to be extra clever and extra patient to pull it off.
My goal is to take her slow and enjoy the creative journey. However, I would prefer and hope the journey  for this project,  to be done by April.

I have found my inspiration.   Cabin Chic!

                                                        What is Cabin chic?
Well, I'm not really sure how the pro-decorators would describe it, but to me ( the amerature decorator ) the feel I get and how I describe it is-  it's chic, with a little finesse of glam  meets rustic, all rolled up into one cozy nest..,                 SCREAMMMMMM!

                     I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!

I am drawn to the soothing colors and  textures... to me it really brings a sense of calmness.
I love the deep gray walls, cozy natural textiles and then the gorgeous pop of color of the headboard.

I'm looking at all of these cozy throws and pillows, and it gives me a HUGE desire to crawl in there and take a nap.

Am I the only one, or does it give you that warm and cozy feel too?

                                                          This is gorgeous!
I love all the nature and art... Oh,and that there candelabra made from antler sheds is simply beautiful.
Definitely, I'm putting that one on my Honey's " I love to help my wife out list ".

I have always loved Mercury glass.  It's pretty, even kinda magical to look at.

In my thrifting adventures I've been collecting a few things to turn into faux Mercury glass.
I will surely share the process when I get to that part of the journey.

Well, there you have it.  My inspiration for my living room makeover.

If you would like to see more inspiration pics, click here.

Thanks all for visiting.
Have a Fantastic and Safe weekend!

Blueberry Bliss!

I LOVE blueberries, what about You?

Yesterday morning, I had mosied down to the deep freeze to grab a bag of fish for that evenings dinner. As I opened the freezer my eyeball spotted a gargantua bag of big plump blueberries over to the left corner of the freezer.
Screammmm.............. I had forgotten that I'd put those plump little fruits in there a little over a month ago.

                                                 BLUEBERRY MUFFINS!
That's all that circled my head...
So, I knew right then, what I must do..
                                                  Make Muffins for the Fam...
                                                               So i did!

And this is what we devoured in only,
                                                            an afternoon.

                                                        No, I'm not kidding!!!

If you would like to bake up some most scrumptious blueberry muffins,  mmm, maybe for breakfast or a winters brunch,  or just to be the coolest grandma or mom that day.
Then, the recipe is  right HERE for you.

Thank goodness for all as they are one of three,  of my go to places for recipes when I want to try something new.

I hope you all have a fantastic Monday! A great beginning to a great week!

embracing the new !

Hi there friends!

It's been awhile since I really, really wrote a post that wasn't short or vague.

last year, I kinda reluctantly ducked out of the "on-line" venues as an artist.
When I say "reluctantly",  I mean, I didn't want to.. I was even kinda ticked off about it and down right felt sorry for myself.

A year ago, we took in our 3 young grandchildren, packed up my art studio, my adult daughters needed more love and emotional support then I thought I could give them, because I felt broken myself. And the icing on the cake, my hubby lost his job when Hostess closed their doors.

                                                 Oh, POOH!
I was one big pity pot petunia!

I knew I had to dig into my closet and find my fancy spancy super girl cape.
I've had to use that magical cape a time or two throughout my life, I was just hoping it would still fit.
                                               And it DiD!!!!

With God, one amazing husband and my wonderful family, and ( the cape), I managed to get it together with a positive attitude.

My point to telling you all this is..,

I learned a bit through all this...  having balance, exploring ALL the things i love and most of all, always having the time for my family.

                                   I mean Whole hearted time.
Time, without commitments or deadlines looming over me to where I cant really enjoy my  family time.

My beautiful grandchildren taught me this very important piece to life's puzzle.
So, instead of locking myself in my studio, frantically meeting a deadline or wanting to make that extra cash,

I choose to give those little grandchildren my time and love.

I now create when I can.
Usually on a daily basis, but sometimes  15 minutes is all that day allows. And, that's okay :)
I made the decision to "only" sell my creations on my blog.
My little Boutique can be found at the top and it's called,

                                              "Evoke a Smile".

Something else re-surfaced from my humble year of learning.

Early in the wee morning hours I  have my coffee and blog time.

I have become so addicted to the decorating and DIY blogs.
This really wasn't foreign to me, no, not at all..., I just had merely put those desires on a shelf for many years.

I couldn't have been more then 8 or 9 years old when i first started decorating my bedroom.
not just with pictures.. oh no, I was dragging odds and ends furniture up from the garage that my parents had discarded. I created headboards from scrap wood, painted all old things I could get my hands on.

Saturday's was deep cleaning my day. My job was to dust.  I remember vividly taking everything  off the buffet, coffee table, etc, and rearranging my mothers decor. She was such a good sport for letting me change up her decor every Saturday :)

Well, all I have to say.., I've really neglected that area of my creativity the past 8 years.

This year, I would like to take this creative part of me down off the shelf and  take pleasure in , and explore decorating.

I think it will be a fun and exciting journey.

I have been working on A fresh new look for my blog to reflect my awakened interests.

Thank you to my blog friends, my loyal collectors for always making me smile, giving me support and huge inspiration.

I hope for this new year, I'll have some fun and interesting reads for you :)
